Happy Mother’s Day!
Dear Mothers,
What condition is your soul in? Today, Mother’s Day is the day to look, check, caress and feed that soul. From a father, there is no mightier day than Mother’s Day because of the chance to pause, admire, serve and applaud. Yes, applaud; when love walks in the room, we should always applaud – but today, Mother’s Day, the applause is haunted with memories of children (as a father) and remembrances of childhood (as a son). Haunted, not as in frightened, but as in every nerve bowing in appreciation to a job well done by “Mom”.
And how can we breathe a thought about Mother’s Day without thinking about the kids, those little beings that Moms teach the world to love. As Shakespeare reminds,
“Look on beauty,
And you shall see ‘tis purchased by the weight;
Which therein works a miracle in nature,
Making them lightest that wear most of it.”
Yes, all those beautiful kids that Moms impact so profoundly, so quickly, so early – they grow, they learn, they become – ultimately themselves.
Mothers, today, on your Day, whatever condition your soul is in – “sit, feast on your life” and allow us to join you in your moment of grace.
